Elementor SEO: headings, speed and plugins
Elementor is a WordPress page builder, so SEO settings come from WordPress and your SEO plugin. What Elementor controls is the page itself: which HTML heading tags you use, how much code each page loads, and whether content is duplicated for different screen sizes.

How Elementor serves pages to crawlers
Elementor pages are rendered on the server by WordPress, so the content is in the HTML. Heavy widgets and animations add CSS and JavaScript that affect speed.
Set the heading tags properly
In the Heading widget, the HTML Tag setting decides whether text is an H1, H2, H3 or a plain div or span. Style and tag are separate, so pick the tag for the structure and the style for the look. Use one H1 per page (often the page title) and H2s for sections.
Checklist
- Use one SEO plugin (Yoast SEO, Rank Math, AIOSEO or SEOPress) for titles, descriptions and sitemaps.
- Avoid building separate mobile and desktop versions of sections with hidden duplicates; it doubles the content in the HTML.
- Use Elementor's performance features and limit widgets, animations and fonts.
- Add alt text to images in the Media Library.
- Use text widgets for text, not images of text.
Elementor and AI search
- Check robots.txt allows the AI search crawlers you want: OAI-SearchBot (ChatGPT search), Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot. See the AI crawler list and the robots.txt generator.
- Check your host's or CDN's bot protection doesn't block them even when robots.txt allows them.
- Make sure the main text is in the HTML the server sends. AI crawlers don't run JavaScript.
- Avoid nosnippet and tiny max-snippet values on pages you want quoted; they also keep pages out of Google's AI Overviews.

Is Elementor bad for SEO?+
No, but it can make pages heavier. Keep widgets lean, set heading tags correctly and use an SEO plugin.
