How PrestaShop serves pages to crawlers
PrestaShop renders storefront pages on the server, so crawlers get the content.
Traffic & SEO settings
- Shop Parameters > Traffic & SEO: turn on friendly URLs. They need URL rewriting on the server (mod_rewrite on Apache), so check your hosting first.
- Set meta titles and descriptions for the shop's main pages in the SEO & URLs list.
- Set the redirect type for canonical URLs (use 301).
- Generate robots.txt from the same page after enabling friendly URLs.
- Install a sitemap module and submit the sitemap in Search Console.
Products and categories
- Fill in each product's SEO tab: meta title, meta description and friendly URL.
- Write original product descriptions and category text.
- Add image legends (alt text).
- Redirect deleted or disabled products to related products or categories.
PrestaShop and AI search
- Check robots.txt allows the AI search crawlers you want: OAI-SearchBot (ChatGPT search), Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot. See the AI crawler list and the robots.txt generator.
- Check your host's or CDN's bot protection doesn't block them even when robots.txt allows them.
- Make sure the main text is in the HTML the server sends. AI crawlers don't run JavaScript.
- Avoid nosnippet and tiny max-snippet values on pages you want quoted; they also keep pages out of Google's AI Overviews.
