Search engine reputation management is the work of shaping what people see when they search for your company or your name: making sure your own site, profiles and accurate coverage rank, and dealing properly with results that are false, outdated or harmful.
What you can legitimately do
- Make your own site the best result for your name: a clear about page, contact details and structured data describing your organization.
- Claim and complete profiles on platforms that rank for names: Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, industry directories, review sites.
- Earn coverage: interviews, case studies, speaking, community work.
- Respond to negative reviews calmly and fix the underlying problem where you can.
- Ask site owners to correct factual errors or outdated information.
Getting results removed
Google removes some content from results under its policies: certain personal information such as contact details, doxxing content, non-consensual explicit imagery, and content that's illegal or the subject of valid legal requests. Its "Results about you" tool lets people request removal of results showing their personal contact information. Google won't remove content just because it's negative.
What not to do
- Fake positive reviews, which break Google's policies and consumer protection laws in many countries.
- Fake negative content about competitors.
- Services that promise to delete any result.
- Networks of thin sites built to push results down: Google's spam policies cover these.
Google's spam policies also demote sites involved in exploitative removal practices, such as charging people to remove content about them.

Only if it breaks Google's policies or the law, for example by exposing personal contact details. Otherwise, ask the publisher to correct it, respond publicly, and strengthen accurate pages about you.
How long does reputation management take?+
Months, usually. New pages need time to rank above established ones.
