Webflow SEO: settings and checklist
Webflow publishes clean, static HTML with full control over titles, meta descriptions, Open Graph, sitemaps, robots.txt and redirects. Its CMS lets you build those fields from collection data, so every item gets unique metadata.

How Webflow serves pages to crawlers
Webflow hosts static HTML generated from your design, so crawlers get the full content. Interactions and custom code run on top of it.
Site settings
- In Site settings, open the SEO tab: turn on the auto-generated sitemap and add robots.txt rules if you need them.
- Set up 301 redirects in Site settings when you change or remove URLs.
- Publish to your custom domain and set it as the default so the webflow.io address isn't the indexed one.
- Make sure staging (webflow.io) subdomain indexing is disabled.
Static pages
- In each page's settings, write the SEO title and meta description.
- Set Open Graph title, description and image.
- Use one H1 per page; Webflow lets you set the heading tag for each heading element.
- Add alt text in the asset panel or image settings.
CMS collection pages
For collection templates, build the SEO title and description from fields, for example "{Name}: {Category} in {City}". Add a dedicated summary field for descriptions rather than cutting the body text. Add JSON-LD in the page's custom code using collection fields to output Article, Product or LocalBusiness schema.
Webflow and AI search
- Check robots.txt allows the AI search crawlers you want: OAI-SearchBot (ChatGPT search), Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot. See the AI crawler list and the robots.txt generator.
- Check your host's or CDN's bot protection doesn't block them even when robots.txt allows them.
- Make sure the main text is in the HTML the server sends. AI crawlers don't run JavaScript.
- Avoid nosnippet and tiny max-snippet values on pages you want quoted; they also keep pages out of Google's AI Overviews.
