Rich results are Google search results with extra visual features, such as review stars, prices or event dates, usually powered by structured data on the page.

Rich results are search results that show more than a title and snippet: review stars, product prices and availability, recipe times, event dates, breadcrumbs and more. Google generates most of them from structured data, usually JSON-LD using schema.org vocabulary, that describes the page.

Google has narrowed some types over time. FAQ rich results are now shown only for a small set of authoritative sites, and HowTo rich results were removed. Check Google's search gallery for the current list before you invest in a type.

How to get rich results

  1. Choose the type Google supports for your page from its structured data gallery.
  2. Add JSON-LD with all required properties, describing content that's visible on the page.
  3. Test the URL in Google's Rich Results Test.
  4. Monitor Search Console's enhancement reports for errors.

FAQ

Do rich results improve rankings?+

Not directly. They can make a result more visible and useful, which can improve clicks.

Why doesn't Google show my rich result?+

Valid markup only makes a page eligible. Google may not show it if the markup doesn't match visible content, the page isn't high enough quality, or the type is restricted.

Are rich snippets and rich results the same?+

Yes. Rich snippets is the older name; Google now calls them rich results.
