Free tool · AI Overviews and AI Mode eligibility
Is your page eligible for Google AI Overviews?
Google's rule is short: to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, a page "must be indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet", and the site must be included in Search generative AI features in Search Console (Google). This check finds the tags and headers that quietly break the first half — and the Bing equivalents that keep a page out of Copilot. Full guide: why a page isn't eligible for AI Overviews.

What it checks
- noindex
- In a meta robots tag, a googlebot-specific tag or an X-Robots-Tag header. A noindexed page can't appear in Search, so it can't appear in AI Overviews.
- nosnippet
- Google: it "will also prevent the content from being used as a direct input for AI Overviews and AI Mode." Apple uses the same tag to opt content out of Siri's world-knowledge answers.
- max-snippet
- A low limit also limits how much of the page may be used as input for AI Overviews and AI Mode. max-snippet:0 behaves like nosnippet.
- data-nosnippet
- Excludes marked parts of the page. Useful on purpose; harmful when it wraps the main content by accident.
- Bing noarchive and nocache
- NOARCHIVE keeps content out of Copilot answers and links; NOCACHE limits it to URL, title and snippet.
- Crawler access
- Whether Googlebot and Bingbot are allowed by robots.txt and get the page from your CDN — a page Google can't crawl can't be indexed.
Check it yourself
Replace the URL with your page.
1. Response headers
Look for an X-Robots-Tag header containing noindex, nosnippet, max-snippet or none.
curl -s -D - -o /dev/null https://example.com/page | grep -i "x-robots-tag"2. Meta robots tags
Look for robots, googlebot or bingbot meta tags, and for data-nosnippet attributes around your main content.
curl -s https://example.com/page | grep -i -o -E '<meta[^>]+name="(robots|googlebot|bingbot)"[^>]*>|data-nosnippet'Questions
Does blocking Google-Extended remove me from AI Overviews?+
No. Google says Google-Extended “does not impact a site's inclusion in Google Search nor is it used as a ranking signal in Google Search.” It controls Gemini training and grounding in Gemini Apps and Vertex AI, not AI Overviews or AI Mode.
Can you see my Search Console AI setting?+
No one outside your Search Console account can. Include is the default for every property. If you changed it, open Search Console's settings and check the Search generative AI control yourself.
If my page is eligible, will it appear in AI Overviews?+
Eligibility is a gate, not a ranking. Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode are rooted in its core Search ranking and quality systems, so the page still has to be among the best answers to the question.
Do I need schema or llms.txt for AI Overviews?+
No. Google's guide says structured data isn't required for generative AI search and that you don't need special machine-readable files. Structured data can still earn other rich results.
How do I opt a single paragraph out of AI answers?+
Wrap it in an element with the data-nosnippet attribute. That removes it from snippets and from direct input to AI Overviews and AI Mode while the rest of the page stays eligible.
